Can’t Open Software Window ?

Has this ever happened to you? You work quietly at your desk with your two screens, everything is tidy. Then, presto, you switch to teleworking. You turn on your computer at home, and then… surprise! Your windows are everywhere or nowhere! It’s as if your software has forgotten where it put them. In this type of scenario, this usually results in the transition between two workstations. Basically, your software has a bit of a short memory. He remembers where you put your windows on your old workstation with multiple screens. When you switch to a position with fewer screens, it tries to replicate that setup, but it doesn’t always work very well!”

There are two options for resolving this problem

Stretch the window

If you see any part of the software window you’re trying to open, it will show up like this:

  1. Place the cursor on the visible part of the window, it should change its shape. At that point, we can move on to the next step.

2. When the cursor changes shape (for the one with both arrow ends)

3. Left-click the mouse

4. Move the cursor to the left or right (depending on which end of the window is on) while holding the left click

5. When the window is in the right position, the left click can be released.

Move the window manually

1. You must make sure that you have selected the software you are trying to open, by clicking (in case) on the icon in the taskbar. The icon of the desired software will appear with a lighter box to show that it is indeed selected.

In the example below, it is the “snipping tool” software that I selected in the taskbar.

2. Proceed by pressing the ”shift” key on the keyboard

3. Put the cursor on the software icon in the taskbar (if it has been moved in the meantime from the previous step)

4. Right-click on the application icon in the taskbar

5. Select the ”Move” option

6. Press and hold the right or left arrow key on the keyboard (depending on which side the window is on) until the window appears in the desired screen
